Adventure Awaits - The Best Outdoor Activities in Mountain View, AR
Mountain View, Arkansas, is hands down one of the best places for anyone who loves the outdoors. Whether you're into fishing, hiking, kayaking, horseback riding, or just soaking in nature, this town in the has it all. Let me share some of my favorite things to do here—you’ll see why I love it so much.
Trout Fishing on the White River If you love fishing, you’re going to lose your mind over the White River. This place is packed with trout—rainbow and brown—and the water is so clear you can sometimes see them swimming around. You can hire a guide if you want the inside scoop, but honestly, just finding a quiet spot and casting your line is magic. It’s so peaceful out there, surrounded by the mountains. You’ll never want to leave.
Hiking in the Ozark Mountains and National Forest The hiking here is amazing. There are trails for everyone, whether you’re just looking for a casual walk or you’re ready to tackle something more intense. My go-to is the Sylamore Creek Trail. You’re walking through these gorgeous woods, and every now and then, you’ll hit a spot where you just have to stop and take it all in. If you’re up for a challenge, check out the North Sylamore Creek Trail. It’s a workout, but the views make it 100% worth it.
Horseback Riding Through the Mountains If you’ve never gone horseback riding through the mountains, you’re missing out. You can even join horseback riding tours from the OK Trading Post, where they’ll guide you through some of the most beautiful trails in the Ozarks. There are trails that wind through the most beautiful parts of the Ozarks and seeing it all from horseback is a whole different experience. The peaceful clip-clop of hooves, the fresh mountain air, and the incredible scenery make this an unforgettable adventure. There are local stables where you can rent a horse or join a guided trail ride, even if you’re a beginner.
Relaxing at Mirror Lake
Mirror Lake is hands-down one of the most relaxing spots around Mountain View. Tucked away in the in Blanchard Spring, it’s this gorgeous little spring-fed lake where the water is so clear it literally looks like a mirror hence the name. It’s the perfect place to kick back and just enjoy some peace and quiet. If you’re into fishing, you’re in luck because the lake is stocked with rainbow trout every month. Or, if fishing isn’t your thing, just take a walk along the shore and soak in the beauty of the place. The old stone dam is super cool and makes for a great photo op and the Old Mill on the boardwalk is fun to look at. Trust me, once you see this place, you’re not going to want to leave. It is just down the street from Blanchard Springs Caverns, so you can do two fun things back-to-back.
Exploring Blanchard Springs Caverns You’ve got to see Blanchard Springs Caverns at least once in your life. These caves are magical—sparkling formations everywhere, stalactites, stalagmites, columns and flowstones in the living cave that is changing even to this day. They have guided tours, so you’ll get all the cool stories and history while you explore. Seriously, pictures don’t do it justice. You have to see it for yourself.
Walking at the City Park If you’re in the mood for something relaxing the walking path at the city park is perfect. It’s a nice, easy trail surrounded by greenery, and it’s just a good place to clear your head. Plus, there are picnic spots if you want to bring some snacks, a disc golf course, basketball courts, a swimming pool, and a playground for the kids. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon.
Kayaking on Sylamore Creek Sylamore Creek is my happy place. Grab a kayak and hit the water—it’s such a relaxing ride. The creek’s gentle flow makes it super easy, even if you’re not a kayaking pro. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife, too. I’ve seen some pretty cool things roaming the banks while paddling around. Whether you bring your own kayak or rent one, you’re going to love it.
Other Outdoor Highlights Mountain View is full of surprises. The Ozark Folk Center State Park is a cool spot to check out if you want to learn about local culture while enjoying the outdoors. And don’t forget to take a scenic drive—the hills and views here are straight out of a postcard.
